Christ Living Through His Church Today
In addition to church windows serving their esthetic purpose, they must also, through picture and symbol, proclaim the Gospel of our Lord. The theme of this window is “Christ Living Through His Church Today.” Christ ascends into Heaven, and the twelve apostles go forth to spread the Gospel. The worldwide church is symbolized by buildings and the shield of the World Council of Churches. Other symbols are the open book for the Bible, the scallop shell and the three drops of water for Baptism, and the there person of the Trinity: the creative hand of God the Father, the Lamb (Christ), and the descending dove for the Holy Spirit. Surrounding the Christ figure are people of all races and nations in all vocations serving under the ascended Lord. “For we are laborers together etc God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.”
